Product Description

The Kuna are one of the most fiercely independent native people of the Americas. After rising up against the government of Panama in the early 20th century, they have been able to preserve their beautiful culture, language, and traditions on the Caribbean islands of Kuna Yala, also known as San Blas. The women are world famous for their ability to sew molas, which are unique to their culture and provide a steady source of income to their communities. Since these beautiful works of are are all hand made, each one is unique. The typical mola is approximately 16 inches x 12 inches, and the images represented can be geometric shapes, rainforest animals, scenes from daily life, or examples of the abundance of sea life that swims around the islands of Kuna Yala! They are also perfect for framing!

We purchase our molas directly from a Kuna women's cooperative in Panama, as well as from a number of independent Kuna women artesans. All of our products are fair traded and based on the respect and mutual understanding that we have established with the Kuna after years of working with them.

We can make custom orders of any sort of animal or ocean animal, but we must receive payment for the order before July for September delivery or by October for December delivery. Please let us know what you're looking for, and we'll be sure to find it.
